It was hot today at Awka the Anambra state capital between the camp of Chief Edozie Njoku and that of Ozo Victor Oye . The battle of who becomes the authentic National Chairman of APGA and candidate of the party for November 6 governorship election took a new dimension today.
While the faction of Oye held its primaries on June 23 where Prof Soludo emerged, the faction of Edozie Njoku held theirs today.
Two major event happened today.
1. Chief Edozie Njoku held primaries today and emerged the candidate of APGA for November 6 governorship election. The primaries took place at Finotel hotel Awka. It started around 7am and ended by 11am. The returning officer, Alhaji Lateef Kamaru declared Edozie Njoku winner and returned elected after the delegate congress.
AIF Media was told that few moments after AIF Media published the outcome of the delegate primaries at Awka, some thugs were mobilised immediately to go and disrupt the primaries.
They came to the venue but it was late. The primary election had ended successfully and majority of the delegates left before the thugs invaded the venue.
2. Another hot event at Awka today was at the state high court Awka. About a week ago, Oye got an interim injunction restraining Edozie Njoku from parading himself as the National Chairman of APGA. He also stoped INEC from receiving the name of a candidate for November 6 governorship election from Chief Edozie Njoku.
The interim order has a 7 day life span so it expired yesterday, Monday, June 28, 2021. The two factions were trying to outsmart each order today. While Oye contracted Patrick Ikweto SAN and briefed him to go to the court today to renew the interim order for another 7 days so they could stop Edozie Njoku from conducting primaries, Njoku himself was ready.
Edozie stormed Awka with two Senior Advocates of Nigeria. He came in with Chike Onyemenam SAN and J.J Ezeuko SAN.
When the matter came up for hearing before Justice Chukwudi Okaa, Ikweto SAN brought an application asking the court to extend the interim order issued earlier which stopped Njoku from parading himself as the National Chairman of APGA.
The counsel to Edozie Njoku objected to it and told the court that he has an application challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter. And pleaded that the court must hear the issue of jurisdiction first.
The counsel also told the court that Njoku had filed an appeal against the interim order which he issued earlier and must wait until the appellate court takes decision on it.
While the judge was still listening, Chike Onyemenam SAN told the court that event has even overtaken the matter Oye is trying to stop. He told the court that the primary election which Oye wants to stop had been successfully concluded few hours ago at Awka, since the interim order expired yesterday.
On that note, the judge saw that these guys were smarter and that they have tied his hands. He quickly asked both parties to maintain status quo and adjourned further hearing till Friday, June 2nd.
The court said it will hear preliminary objections on the adjourned date.
Oye’s camp who were at the court left dejected and disappointed. They couldn’t stop Edozie Njoku through the court. And they failed to stop their Primaries with their thugs at the Finotel hotel, Awka.
