Delegates from all the minor wards in Umuona Community, Aguata Local Government Area, yesterday, 29th December, 2020, elected Chief Kenneth Okoli(President General) alongside nine others to pilot the affairs of the town union.

Earlier before the election proper, the Traditional Ruler of the town, Igwe Humphrey Ejesieme had during his address announced suspension of the election on the grounds that COVID 19 directives issued by the state government were not adequately followed.

Trouble started over modalities for the election with majority of the delegates opting for the Open Balot System, which they claimed was the consensus reached at the last Congress of the Town Union but did not sit well with the Igwe.

However, officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters who were on ground to monitor the election adopted the consensus but noted that all COVID 19 Protocol must be adhered to. Elections into various positions were later held.
